Come diving with us in 

During your course you will be based in the town of Sosua, where our main dive center is located. However since we also have branches in several all-inclusive hotels in the Puerto Plate region you may also spend time in these, learning from our professional staff. We normally conduct the Divemaster program over a period of three to four weeks. We believe that the best way to become a really good Dive Master is to experience how a dive centre operates on a day-to-day basis, not just reading books and doing simulated exercises, but by actually helping the instructor train real students in their diving courses. Of course you still have to read the books, take the exams and practice the exercises but by actually helping the instructors and dive guides with real students and qualified divers you will gain experience and pick up a wealth of knowledge that you cannot learn from any manual.

 

Rescue Divers who are at least 18 years old may enrol in the Divemaster course. You also need to have:

• Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care (CPR and First Aid) or React Right training within the past 24 months.

• A medical statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months.

• At least 40 logged dives to begin the course and 60 dives to earn certification.

The Divemaster course teaches you to be a leader and take charge of dive activities. Through knowledge development sessions, waterskills exercises and workshops, and hands-on practical assessment, you develop the skills to organize and direct a variety of scuba diving activities. Topics and practical workshops include:

• The role and characteristics of the Divemaster

• Supervising dive activities and assisting with student divers

• Diver safety and risk management

• Divemaster conducted programs and specialized skills

• Business of diving and your career

• Awareness of the dive environment

• Dive setup and management

• Mapping an open water site

• Conducting dive briefings

• Organizing a search and recovery project and a deep dive

• Conducting a scuba review and skin diver course

• Assisting with Discover Scuba Diving and leading Discover Local Diving programs

 

 

As a dive professional, you’ll want to have all your basic scuba equipment, although we allow use of our standard rental equipment if it is required. All Divemaster Trainees are required to have the following items:

• Dive computer

• SMB (Safety Sausage)

• Mask, snorkel and fins

• Compass

• Pocket mask

• Diving slate

• Knife

 

If you do not already own these items we can help procure them once you arrive in Sosua, however it is better to purchase all dive equipment before you arrive (due to limited purchasing options in this area).
